Embracing Winter

Updated: Apr 27, 2021

I have to admit I like winter but not many people do, and usually most people can not wait till summer arrives. I would like to suggest in this blog some reasons for you to embrace the winter season and maybe you will end up liking it as much as I do…

Winter is a perfect time to support our mind, body and spirit via slowing down, ‘going inwards’, sleeping more, (my favourite) and resting. It’s the excuse of the cool days and nights that gives us permission to do all these things, and as we do, we can expect to feel renewed, repaired, restored and refreshed by the time spring arrives. This is exactly what happens in nature, plants and animals go into hibernation in winter, so they can make room for the new growth to occur in spring. It's about shedding what’s no longer serving you; it's letting go of the old to make room for the new in order to move forward.

So, let’s celebrate winter by slowing down, resting and becoming introspective. Why not enjoy your favourite winter comfort foods like soup and casseroles whilst staying at home maybe inviting your family and friends to join you; do more yoga and meditation; or maybe walks amongst nature or even relaxing whilst reading a book with a nice cup of herbal tea?

Find your love of winter by slowing down, letting go, and surrounding yourself with gratitude as you celebrate the season of "recovery and preparation." (Paul Theroux).

How will you celebrate winter?
