This month is all about mental health. There are many ways we can take care of our mental health and as research has demonstrated yoga is one of those ways. Yoga creates not only body awareness, assist in reducing stress/anxiety but it also teaches us to look inwards. Yoga aims to cultivate non judgement and compassionate love towards ourselves. Many times, we are great at supporting, loving and non-judging others but we find it challenging to do that for ourselves? Why?
Do we find it hard to have self-compassion and not to judge ourselves because we compare ourselves to others? Because of fear? Because we are too hard on ourselves? There can be many reasons why this may be so, but if we do not develop a loving relationship with ourselves how can we expect others to? Self-love is self-care and more. It's not egocentric or selfish, its accepting who we are and being grateful for it; it’s moving forward despite our challenges; it opening up our heart to receiving love as well as sharing love.
When was the last time you told yourself ‘I love you’? When was the last time your self-talk was compassionate instead of critical? When was the last time you didn’t judge yourself but rather accepted your limitations?
My challenge to you this month is to open your heart to yourself and practice non judgment and self-compassion. Can you come up with at least 3 ways you can do this?
